Press Release Regarding ICTY’s Judgement on the Karadziç Case

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 25.03.2016
No: 72, 25 March 2016

International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has sentenced Radovan Karadziç to 40 years’ imprisonment for the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war he committe

d during the armed conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), between 1992 and 1995.

ICTY’s judgement on the Karadziç case, although far from serving a consolation, is yet a condolence of the international community to the families of thousands of innocent victims of genocide, crimes against humanity and various war crimes committed in Bosnia Herzegovina, setting one of the darkest pages of recent history.

The Karadziç judgment delivered as a result of meticulous work of the ICTY, is of importance since it has proved that the courts which have exclusive competence to deal with such cases do not allow impunity for any crime committed against humanity. We hope that the judgment will serve to social peace and reconciliation in Bosnia Herzegovina, and will set an example to avoid commitment of similar crimes in the ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world.
